Following the departure of Bruce Nichols from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Deb Brody has been named VP, Publisher of the adult trade division. Brody has been with HMH since 2016, when she joined as Editorial Director from her previous position as Executive Editor at William Morrow.

Justin Schwartz, previously Executive Editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, joins Simon & Schuster as VP, Executive Editor.

Pat Connolly, President and CEO of Follett Corp. since January 2018, has retired from the company. Chairman Todd Litzsinger has been named Acting President and CEO.

In university press news…At the University of Texas Press, Robert Devens has been named Director. He currently serves UT Press as Interim Director. Ashley Runyon has been named Director of the University Press of Kentucky. She most recently worked as Trade Director at Indiana University Press. At Princeton University Press, Colleen Suljic joins in the newly-created role of Chief Digital Marketing Specialist. She had been Western Region Senior Manager at McGraw-Hill.

At Coffee House Press, Enrique Olivarez joins as Development Director.

Maria Teresa Bonfatti Sabbioni has been named Marketing Officer with the Italian Trade Commission Publishing Task Force, based in Chicago. She comes to the position from a career in academia.

Cathy Cadek, Director of Mass Marketing at Readerlink, has retired from the company as of May 1.

At the Sewanee School of Letters, Justin Taylor has been named Director.

At Aevitas Creative Management, Chris Bucci has joined as Agent. He was previously Literary Agent at CookeMcDermid Literary Management.

Catherine Frank has joined Peachtree Books as Editor-at-Large and will acquire and edit primarily middle-grade and YA fiction and nonfiction.

At Dey Street Books, Alessandra Bastagli has left her position as Executive Editor for a new opportunity, to be announced shortly.

At Macmillan Audio, Steve Wagner joins as Producer. He has worked previously as Recording Engineer/Audio Editor for Hachette Audio.

Hannah Allaman, lately Assistant Editor at Disney-Hyperion, has joined Delacorte Press as Associate Editor.

Dana Li, formerly Designer at Penguin Young Readers, has joined Catapult/Counterpoint as Designer.

At No Starch Press, Hope Levy, formerly Sales and Marketing Associate at Catapult/Counterpoint/Soft Skull Press, joins as Marketing Associate.

Gregory Henry joins Apollo Publishers as Publicist. He previously worked in that capacity at Hachette Book Group and later founded Gregory Henry Literary.

 

PROMOTIONS

Sally Kim has been promoted to SVP, Publisher for Putnam. Christine Ball becomes SVP, Publisher for Berkley and Dutton.

At St. Martin’s Publishing Group, Joe Goldschein has been promoted to VP, Marketing & Sales Operations. Also in that division, Marissa Sangiacomo becomes Assistant Marketing Director; Meaghan Leahy becomes Senior Marketing Operations Manager; D.J. DeSmyter, Allison Ziegler, and Michelle Cashman become Senior Marketing Managers; and Stephen Erickson and Beatrice Jason become Assistant Marketing Managers; and Courtney Littler becomes Senior Editor, focusing on Castle Point Books and Griffin Puzzle Program. Marta Fleming is now Director of International Rights for St. Martin’s Press, Flatiron Books, Tor/Forge Books, and Celadon Books. At Macmillan Audio, Samantha Edelson has been promoted to VP of Marketing; Hayden Biggs becomes Design Associate; Abigail Starr becomes Associate Manager of Design; Kathryn Carroll becomes Assistant Manager of Audio Publishing; and Emily Dyer becomes Marketing Manager. Scottie Bowditch is now VP at Macmillan Speakers, while Chloe Volkwein moves up to Lecture Agent. And at Macmillan Podcasts, Emily Miller has become Digital Associate and Morgan Ratner has become Podcast Marketing Specialist.

At Simon & Schuster, Karyn Basso becomes Director of Order Management and Customer Service. Greg Andonian becomes Director of Customer Financial Services.

Anna Dobben is now Associate Director, Awards at the National Book Foundation, while Dhyana Taylor moves up to Administration and Development Coordinator.

At Transatlantic Agency, Brenna English-Loeb has been promoted to Literary Agent.

Mirabelle Korn is now Editor at Chronicle Books.

At Coffee House Press, Claire Fallon has been promoted to Publicity and Operations Associate.

 

DULY NOTED

David Vigliano has bought back the assets of his eponymous literary agency from Y Entertainment Group.

Beginning in July, Welbeck Publishing Group will be distributed in the US by Two Rivers Distribution.

Hopkins Fulfillment Services will provide US warehousing, fulfillment, and sales representation for the University of Alberta Press, effective June 1.

Beginning July 1, Purdue University Press will have fulfillment and publishing services provided by Longleaf Services.

Baker & Taylor Publisher Services signed full sales representation and distribution agreements with two new publishers: Messianic Jewish Publishers & Resources, effective worldwide May 1, and Starfish Bay Publishing, effective in the US and Canada July 1.

Independent Publishing Group announced that it has added five publishers to its general and Spanish-language distribution programs. They are Connell Publishing, effective November 1, 2019; KiCam, effective January 1; Libros del Kultrum, effective June 1; Editorial Fineo, effective June 1; and Vegueta Ediciones, effective August 1.

Diversion Publishing has opened a podcast division, serializing nonfiction books as episodic audio series. The division launches May 18 through a partnership with iHeartRadio, with Proctor & Gamble as sponsor.

Yale University Press will launch an audiobook program, Yale Press Audio, with a plan to release between one and four audiobooks a season.
