Mike Evans has joined McGraw-Hill as Chief Financial Officer. He was previously Chief Operating Officer and CFO at Renaissance, a company specializing in learning analytics for pre-K through 12th grade.

At Thomas Nelson, Timothy Paulson has joined as VP and Publisher, beginning February 4. He was most recently General Manager, Science Brands at Kalmbach Media. Kristopher Kam joins HarperCollins Children’s Publishing as Publicist, moving over from his previous position as Associate Publicist at St. Martin’s Press.

Peter Mendelsund, longtime Associate Art Director at Knopf, has been named Creative Director of The Atlantic. His frequent design partner Oliver Munday will become Senior Art Director. Both begin in February.

At the American Psychological Association’s APA Books and Magination Press, Kerry Cahill joins as Sales Director and Emma All joins as Sales Specialist. Cahill was previously Sales Director at Johns Hopkins University Press, where All was Publicist.

At Avid Reader Press, Jordan Rodman joins as Deputy Director of Publicity. Most recently she was a freelance publicist for Dave Eggers and Nathan Englander. Cassie Malmo, formerly Cassie McGinty, has joined Simon Spotlight as Publicity Manager, moving over from her role as Senior Publicist at Disney Publishing Worldwide. Also joining the publicity team are Lauren Carr, Publicist, formerly Publicist at Bonnier Publishing, and Annika Voss, Digital and Social Marketing Coordinator, formerly Marketing Operations Assistant at Scholastic. At Simon & Schuster Children’s, Caroline Osborn joins as Subsidiary Rights Manager. She had been Assistant Subrights Manager at Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. Carina Guiterman joins Simon & Schuster as Editor, moving over from the same position at Little, Brown. Lisa Lauria, formerly Copywriter at Toys R Us joins the imprint as Editor. Senior Editor Ira Silverberg has left Simon & Schuster after three years with the company.

Iris Hsieh joins Penguin Random House International as Associate Director, China Sales & Product Management. She has been working as Associate Marketing Manager for Taylor & Francis. Marnie Cochran has become Executive Editor at Harmony and Rodale, having worked previously as Executive Editor at Ballantine. Lindsay Rose will join Dutton as Executive Editor on January 22. Most recently she was Senior Editor at Grand Central. At Portfolio, Trish Daly, previously Editor at Little, Brown and Company, joins as Senior Editor. Meanwhile, Frank Steinert, Chief Human Resources Officer at Penguin Random House, will leave the company after the first quarter of 2019. Marian Wood, VP and Publisher of Marian Wood Books, departed at the end of 2018, as did Bruce Nygren, Senior Editor at WaterBrook & Multnomah.

At Grand Central, Alexis Gilbert joins as Assistant Director of Advertising. She was previously Brand Marketing Manager at Little, Brown and Company. Claire Potter, previously Associate Editor at Crown, joins Basic Books as Editor.

At Scribd, Greg Voynow joins as Head of Audio and Content Partnerships. He most recently oversaw business development at New York Public Radio. In addition, Stacey Nathan has joined as Content Acquisition Associate.

Bryan Kinney has joined Reed Exhibitions as Sales Manager. Most recently he was Marketing and Events Director for Publishers Weekly.

Theresa Park and Celeste Fine have founded a new literary agency together, Park & Fine Literary and Media, which combines the existing Park Literary & Media with Fine’s client roster and a number of her colleagues from Sterling Lord Literistic. They will run the agency jointly as Co-Founders and Partners. Joining along with Fine, who was VP at Sterling Lord, are John Maas, formerly Agent and now Executive Director, Editorial Development and Strategy; Sarah Passick, formerly Associate Literary Agent and now Executive Director, New Business and Relationships; and Jaidree Braddix and Anna Petkovich, both formerly Associate Literary Agents and now Literary Agents.

In other agency news…Lucinda Karter joins Trident Literary Agency as Senior Foreign Rights Agent. Most recently she was Agent and Foreign Rights Manager at the Jennifer Lyons Agency. At Thompson Literary Agency, Ashley Collom joins as Literary Agent, moving over from her previous position as Agent and Head Assistant at DeFiore and Company. John Butman is joining Kneerim & Williams as Affiliated Agent; he is the Founder and Principal of Idea Platforms, Inc.

Cara Bedick has joined Chronicle Books as Executive Editor of Mark Tauber’s new, to-be-named imprint. Previously she was Senior Editor at Touchstone.

At Audible, Kerri Kolen joins as Executive Editor, Originals. She was most recently Executive Editor at Putnam.

Anne Goldberg joins Phaidon in New York as Project Editor, Food. Previously she was Associate Editor at Ten Speed Press.

At Scholastic Trade, Samantha Swank rejoins as Editor, Licensing, Media, and Brands. She had been working with the Scholastic Cartwheel team. Effective September 1, Penguin Random House Publisher Services will distribute Crooked Lane Books.

Nation Books has been renamed Bold Type Books. The Nation Institute itself has also changed its name to Type Media Center.

The Authors Guild Foundation is offering its members and other interested travelers an all-inclusive trip to Jordan April 15-25. IN MEMORIAM

Robin Seaman, Director of Content Acquisition at Benetech, passed away suddenly on January 7 in the San Francisco Bay area from complications due to an infection. She was 68.  A memorial is being planned.
