Kristin Cochrane will take over as CEO of Random House Canada following the retirement of Brad Martin on June 30. Martin has been CEO since 2007.

At Lonely Planet, CEO Daniel Houghton has stepped down. He will become CEO of marketing agency Pyxl.

Brant Rumble has joined Hachette Books as Executive Editor. He was previously Senior Editor with Blue Rider Press until it closed last year.

Erin Reback joins William Morrow as Senior Publicity Manager. She was previously Publicity Manager at Simon & Schuster.

Kamilla Benko has joined Bloomsbury Children’s as Senior Editor and Brand Manager. Previously she was Editor at Glasstown Entertainment.

At Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s, Amy Cloud joins as Senior Editor. She was most recently Editor at Aladdin.

Kelly Lynch has joined Workman as Associate Creative Director, Calendars and Stationary. She was most recently Senior Graphic Designer at Eileen Fisher. In addition, Grace Rambo has joined as Digital and Web Operations Assistant.

Andrew Brewer will join Princeton University Press as International Sales Director on July 1. Previously he was Managing Director at The University Press Group.

Arielle Kane has joined Restless Books as CFO, moving over from her previous role as Marketing Manager at Atria.

At Arcadia Publishing, Jack Joseph will leave his position as Director of Direct-to-Consumer Sales on June 15 to become VP and Partner at Nextone Content Group.

Pamela Peterson joins Cave Henricks Communications as Associate Director of Publicity, effective May 21. She was previously Senior Publicity Manager at Fortier Public Relations.

At the National Endowment for the Arts, Jane Chu will step down as Chair after four years.

In agency news…former Atria Executive Editor Johanna Castillo will join Writers House as Senior Literary Agent on June 6 in a “return to her roots.” Will Lippincott has joined Aevitas Creative Management as Agent, based in LA; he was Agent and Founding Partner at Lippincott, Massie & McQuilkin until late 2016. Albert Lee, lately Literary Agent for Aevitas, now holds that position at United Talent Agency. Samantha Fabien has joined Laura Dail Literary Agency as International Rights Manager. Kerri Kennedy Calistri joins Audere Media as Publicist.

Marco Palmieri is departing his position as Senior Editor at Tor Books to pursue freelance editing opportunities.

Jess d’Arbonne has joined Falcon Guides as Acquisitions Editor, having previously held that position at the University Press of Colorado.

 

PROMOTIONS

Mary Marotta has been promoted to SVP, DK North America. Lauren Burnstein has been promoted to Publicity Manager at Berkley. At Penguin Books, Victoria Savanh has been promoted to Associate Editor, while Elizabeth Vogt and Gretchen Schmid have both been promoted to Assistant Editor.

At St. Martin’s Press, Tracey Guest has been promoted to VP, Executive Director of Publicity. Catryn Silbersack has been promoted to Publicity Coordinator, Adult Trade.

At Quirk Books, Nicole De Jackmo moves up to VP, Publicity and Marketing.

Kayleigh George has been promoted to Director of Marketing for Plume, in addition to her present role as Associate Director of Marketing for Dutton.

Mike Salisbury has been promoted to Literary Agent at Yates & Yates.

At Chronicle, Kathleen Miller has been promoted to Sales Coordinator and Julie Williams has been promoted to Senior Sales Manager.

SarahMay Harel has been promoted to Assistant Manager, Web Operations and Ecommerce at Workman.

At Simon Pulse, Nicole Ellul has been promoted to Editor and Sarah McCabe becomes Associate Editor. Tricia Lin is now Assistant Editor at Aladdin. Diego Molano Rodriguez is now Marketing Coordinator at Simon & Schuster Children’s.

Elle Keck has been promoted to Associate Editor at William Morrow/Avon.

 

 DULY NOTED

Otto Penzler has started Penzler Publishers and, with it, the new company’s first imprint, American Mystery Classics. The imprint will focus on reprints of American writers from the “Golden Age of detective fiction.” American Mystery Classics launches with six titles in October, distributed by W.W. Norton, with six more following in March 2019. Charles Perry will serve as Publisher and Jane Friedman, former HarperCollins CEO and Open Road cofounder, is consulting.

Random House Children’s will launch Random House Graphic in fall 2019 with Gina Gagliano leading the line as Publishing Director. She joins from First Second, where she was most recently Associate Director, Marketing & Publicity.

Effective October 1, Casemate Group will become exclusive distributor of Birlinn Limited in the US (for print) and North America (for ebooks). It will also provide sales, marketing, accounting, warehousing, and distribution facilities. Casemate has sold Birlinn’s military titles in the US since 2001.

Mary Anne Thompson Associates has been appointed US book scout for Hungary’s Lira Books, Serbia’s Laguna Publishing, and China’s Beijing Xiron Books.

Franklin & Siegal Associates has added adult scouting to their work for Aschehoug in Norway and will continue to scout for YA and middle grade.

Eccles Fisher Associates has been appointed UK scout for Taiwan’s Chi Ming Publishing.
