Steve Wasserman will join Heyday Books as Publisher and Executive Director in July, succeeding Founder Malcolm Margolin, who retired at the end of 2015. Wasserman was previously Yale University Press Editor-at-Large and Los Angeles Times Book Review Editor. Heydey’s Editorial Director Gayle Wattawa will be Interim Publisher and Director of Nature and Environmental Publishing. Lindsie M. Bear will serve as Interim Executive Director in the meantime.

Matthew Shatz is the SVP of Sales and Business Development at Open Road Integrated Media. He was previously Chief Revenue Officer at Oyster.

In children’s publishing, Julie Matysik will join Running Press Kids as Editorial Director in mid-March. She was previously Editorial Director at Sky Pony Press. . . Marlo Scrimizzi joined Highlights Press as Editor. He was Associate Editor at Running Press Kids. . . At Scholastic, Nicholas Thomas joined as Publishing Manager for Chicken House and David Fickling Books. He was previously Editorial Assistant at Bloomsbury. . . Jade Yeung joined little bee books as Production Coordinator. She was formerly Production Associate at Norton. . . Senior Editor Sharyn November’s position at Viking Children’s has been eliminated. At agencies, Hilary Pecheone is now Director of Brand Development at New Leaf Literary & Media She was Senior Marketing Manager at Practising Law Institute. . . Paul Stevens joined Donald Maass Literary Agency as Agent. He was previously Editor at TOR and Quirk Books. . . Courtney Miller-Callihan opened the Handspun Literary Agency in San Diego. She was previously Agent at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates. . . Ryann Stevenson Wahl is now Foreign Rights Manager and Literary Agent at Holloway Literary. He was previously Literary Scout at Jane Starr Literary Scouts. . . Teresa Kietlinski launched Bookmark Literary, which will be dedicated to children’s books.

Jeff Golick joined Dover Publications as Acquisitions Editor. He was previously Publishing Director at Dreamscape.

Anne Brewer joined Crooked Lane Books as Senior Acquisitions Editor. She was previously Editor at Thomas Dunne Books and Minotaur.

HarperCollins Children’s promoted Caroline Sun to Director of Publicity, Rosemary Brosnan to VP, Editorial Director, Rosanne Romanello to Associate Director of Publicity, and Stephanie Hoover to Publicist.

Penguin Random House promoted Benjamin Steinberg to Associate Director, Content Marketing and Partnerships and Richard Callison was promoted to Director, International Online and Digital Sales, moving from his previous position as Associate Publisher at Random House. Random House promoted Beverly Horowitz to SVP, Publisher of Delacorte, Mallory Loehr to SVP, Publisher of Golden Books, Doubleday, and Crown Books for Young Readers. Additionally at Random House Children’s, Elmer Derek was promoted to Director of Marketing, Sam Im to Director, Digital Strategy & Business Development, and Lauren Adams to Marketing Manager.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers promoted Mary-Kate Gaudet to Executive Editor.

TJ Kelleher was promoted to VP, Associate Publisher at Basic Books. Sean Maher was promoted to Associate Director, Marketing at Da Capo Press and Da Capo Lifelong Books while Jillian Farrel was promoted to Marketing Manager.

Jeremie Ruby-Strauss was promoted to Executive Editor at Gallery Books.

Chronicle Books promoted Christina Amini to Publisher Director, Formats and Steve Kim to Senior Production Designer, Technical Lead.

Patti Ann Harris was promoted to Creative Director of Cartwheel Books, Orchard Books, Readers, Branches, and Little Shepherd at Scholastic. She was previously Executive Art Director. Monica Palenzuela has moved from Project Manager of Scholastic National Partnerships to Senior Publicist at Scholastic.  Scholastic Trade promoted Cheryl Weisman to Senior Production Director, Digital, Print, and Audio.

Dan Smetanka was promoted to VP, Executive Editor at Counterpoint Press.

Michael Bell moved from Ingram to Ingram Content Group, where he will be Director of National Accounts. Emily Weiss was promoted to Director, Corporate Communications at Ingram Content Group.

Victoria Sanders & Associates promoted Chris Kepner to Director of Foreign Rights.

DULY NOTED

Perseus Books Group announced that it has reached another deal to sell its publishing lines to Hachette Book Group. Susan Weinberg will continue to run Perseus as SVP, Publisher and will join Hachette’s Executive Management Board. Perseus’ distribution business will be sold to Ingram Content Group.

Simon & Schuster launched Salaam Reads, a children’s imprint dedicated to publishing books featuring Muslin characters and Stories. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers Executive Editor Zareen Jaffery will head the imprint with Publisher Justin Chanda.

President Obama nominated Dr. Carla Hayden to serve as the 14th Librarian of Congress. She is CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library and will be the first woman and the first African American to hold the position. The previous Librarian of Congress, James Billington, retired last September after 27 years.

The London Book Fair announced that Poland will be the featured country in 2017.
