Nancy Mercado will Scholastic as Editorial Director, effective October 14, after serving as Executive Editor at Roaring Book Press. Also at Scholastic, Alexis Lunsford has been named National Accounts Manager, B&N/Nook. She was most recently Account Manager for B&N at Penguin Young Readers Group. Michael Barrett has been named Senior Publicist, Corporate Communications; he was previously a Publicist at Discovery.

Nook Media has appointed two outside executives to its management team: Mahesh Veerina, previously at Motorola Mobility, will become COO on October 7 and Doug Carlson, recently at Zinio, has been named Executive VP of Digital Content and Marketing. Both will report to Michael P. Huseby, President of Barnes & Noble, Inc. and CEO of Nook Media.

Jeremy Grainger, currently National Account Manager at Quayside, will be moving to Aperture Foundation as Sales & Marketing Manager for their rapidly expanding books program.

Alana Heiss has joined Oyster as Customer Experience Manager; she was previously Northeast Sales Rep at Taschen.

Samantha Howard will be joining Market Partners International/Publishing Trends starting October 10th as Research/Editorial Associate; she was previously Office Manager at Waxman Leavell Literary Agency.

Director of Technology for the B&H Publishing Group Aaron Linne is leaving to join Logos Bible Software as Director of Church Products.

Martin Literary & Media Management has announced that Clelia Gore will head up their new Children’s Division.

PROMOTIONS

Some of the anticipated effects of the PRH merger have begun to be announced over the last few weeks:

Cyrus Kheradi was appointed to SVP, Director, International Sales and Marketing for Penguin Random House (PRH), overseeing all of the newly-merged company’s U.S-originated activities in his area.  PRH also formed a cross-company audio group in the US, with Amanda D’Acierno running the group as SVP, Publisher of Penguin Random House Audio, Fodor’s, and Living Language. Patti Pirooz has been named Senior Executive Producer, and Dan Zitt has been named VP, Content Production.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers’ Andrew Smith has been promoted to SVP, Deputy Publisher, Executive Director of New Business Development.

Jennifer Weltz has become President of JVNA, succeeding Jean Naggar, who is moving to the new position of Chair.

At Scholastic, April Chorba has been promoted to Product Director, Art Department and Eva Steele-Saccio has been promoted to Product Director, Editorial at Klutz.

Rachel Rokicki has been promoted to Associate Director of Publicity, Crown, Hogarth, and Broadway Books.  She was Assistant Director of Publicity.

Tor Books Art Director Irene Gallo  has been promoted to Associate Publisher at Tor.com.  She will continue in her  current role as well.

At Simon & Schuster, Anne Tate has been promoted to Senior Publicity Manager, Leah Johanson has been promoted to Senior Publicist, and Erin Reback moves up to Publicist.

Annie Stone has been promoted to Editor for Harlequin Teen.
