A recap of job announcements from the last month:

The board of trustees of the National Geographic Society announced that Gary E. Knell has been selected to succeed John M. Fahey as President and Chief Executive Officer later this year. Knell is currently President and CEO of National Public Radio. Fahey will continue to serve as NGS’s Chairman of the Board.

Bob Miller, President and Publisher of Flatiron Books, the new division of Macmillan, announced that Colin Dickerman will join Flatiron as Editorial Director, effective September 9th. Most recently, Dickerman was Executive Editor at The Penguin Press.  Separately, Andrea Walker has resigned her position as Senior Editor at The Penguin Press.  She can be reached at andrea.b.walker@gmail.com.

Gregg Kulick has left Penguin and has joined Quirk Books as Art Director as of September 4th.

Nancy Freeman has left Mondadori/Elcograf to join Verona Libri, a new venture. Kathy Rosenbloom will be joining Elcograf as the new US Sales Representative.

At Monacelli Press, Alan Rapp, formerly Senior Editor, Art and Design at Chronicle Books, has joined as Senior Editor, Architecture and Design. Michael Vagnetti has been named Production Manager; he was previously Director of Production Operations at Sterling.  Nancy Green, formerly Senior Editor at W.W. Norton, has joined Monacelli as Consulting Editor, Architecture.

Anthony LaSasso has joined CN Times Books as Publicity Manager. Previously, he was a Publicist at Jane Weisman Public Relations. In addition, India Amos has been named Managing Editor of Print and Digital Production. She was most recently an E-book Developer and QA Specialist at F+W Media.

Spry Publishing announced that it has hired Sally Feller as Manager of Publicity and Marketing. She was most recently a Senior Publicist at Tor/Forge Books.

Ashley Gilliam has joined Scribner as Assistant Publishing Manager. Previously she was an Editorial Assistant at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

PROMOTIONS

Gillian Blake, Editor in Chief of Henry Holt, has been named a Vice President; she joined the company in 2009 as an Executive Editor. Also at Holt, Serena Jones has been promoted to Senior Editor, and Paul Golob moves over as Executive Editor while continuing to manage the imprint’s relationship with the New York Times. Both Jones and Golob will report to Gillian Blake.

As part of S&S Children’s reorganization of its publicity department, Anna McKean has been promoted to Associate Director of Publicity for Aladdin, Pulse, Beach Lane, Paula Wiseman, and Novelty and Licensed Publishing, and Katy Hershberger has been named Associate Director of Publicity of SSBFYR, McElderry, and Atheneum. Jillian Vandall has joined as Associate Publicist. Previously she was a Publicity Assistant at Gallery Books.

Elizabeth Shaw has been named Editor-in-Chief, Scholastic Parent & Child magazine. She joined Scholastic in 2012 as the magazine’s Executive Editor.

Jeremy Sterling has been promoted to Director of Business Development from his role as Director of Marketing at Spry Publishing.

Dan Crissman has been promoted from Editor to Senior Editor at The Overlook Press.

At Chronicle Books, Sarah Billingsley has been promoted to Editor, Food & Drink Group, and Kelsey Premo Jones moves up to Designer, Marketing Communications.

At Soho Press, Juliet Grames has been promoted to Associate Publisher, and Mark Doten has been promoted to Senior Editor.
