Random House has announced that Barbara Marcus will replace Chip Gibson as President and Publisher of Random House Children’s Books. Marcus spent 22 years as President of children’s book publishing and distribution for Scholastic, and most recently was an advisor for Open Road Media.

Janet Goldstein has been named SVP, Editorial Director, Adult Books at National Geographic Society. She had previously run her own editorial consulting firm and before that, worked at Penguin and HarperCollins.

Ballantine Bantam Dell announced a realignment of its nonfiction publishing program: Jennifer Tung has joined BDD in the new role of VP, Editorial Director, nonfiction, reporting to Libby McGuire. Tung was most recently Deputy Editor of RedBook. Executive Editors Pamela Cannon and Mamie Cochran will now report to Tung. In addition, Richard Callison will be promoted to Associate Publisher, nonfiction, also reporting to McGuire.

Dan Ambrosio has been named to the Senior Editor position the Da Capo and Da Capo Lifelong imprints of The Perseus Books Group.  He was previously Editor at Wiley and before that, at Grand Central. . . . Ben Adams will join PublicAffairs as Senior Editor. Previously he was a Senior Editor at Bloomsbury.

Pamela Horn has been named Head of Cross Platform Publishing at Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt replacing Chul R Kim who went to MOMA.  She was Editorial Director, Sterling Innovation.

Kevin Doughten will join Crown as Senior Editor on September 24, focusing on non-fiction. He was most recently an Editor at Viking.

Longtime London Book Fair Director Alistair Burtenshaw and Director of Books and Publishing at Reed Exhibitions is leaving, “to pursue opportunities in the wider creative industries,” according to a letter sent to the LBF advisory board by Reed Exhibitions B2B divisional MD Justin Tadman.

Laura Hopper has joined Hyperion in the newly created position of Editorial Director of Franchise Publishing. Hopper worked for United Talent Agency (UTA) before joining the motion picture department at Brillstein-Grey and, most recently, represented clients working on TV and film projects. She will be based on the West Coast.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing, the new division comprising Zondervan and the recently-acquired Thomas Nelson, announced its new organizational structure under President and CEO Mark Schoenwald. Among the announcements: Stuart Bitting has been named SVP, CFO; Annette Bourland and David Moberg will be SVP, Publisher of Zondervan and Thomas Nelson, respectively.

Victoria Comella joined HarperCollins 360 as Publicity Manager; she previously worked at Putnam.

PROMOTIONS AND INTERNAL CHANGES

Little Brown and Company Publisher Michael Pietsch will become the new CEO, succeeding David Young at Hachette Book Group, effective April 1st, 2013. Pietsch will lead the search for his own replacement after 11 years at the helm of Little, Brown, a division of Hachette Book Group.

Young will assume the role of Deputy Chief Executive of Hachette UK and CEO of Orion Publishing Group. As of June 2013, he will replace retiring Peter Roche in those roles. Ken Michaels, HBG’s Chief Operating Officer, is promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer.

Executive Director of Publicity at Picador James Meader has also been named Publicist-at-Large at Henry Holt. Meader will continue to report to Picador publisher Stephen Morrison and will also add “a dotted line” to Holt Deputy Publisher Maggie Richards.

Shida Carr has been promoted from Publicity Manager to Assistant Director at Touchstone/S&S.
